Combat Control Association CCA
65th Anniversary Reunion
October 19-20, 2018

*** CCA Cancelling the 2018 Reunion ***

Combat Control Association teammates,

As you know, President Trump will award TSgt John “Chappy” Chapman the Medal of Honor (posthumously) and Chappy’s family will receive the award on 22 August. There are events planned in the DC area that week to honor the Chapman family, and the CCA invites you to the public events on 24 August, see https://usafcca.org/mdb/docs/0000-00-00-00%20MOHTimeLine.pdf for more information.

Additionally, AFSOC and the Hurlburt Field community, are planning numerous events 25-27 October to honor and recognize Chappy and his family. The CCA BOD initially believed the AFSOC events were the same week as the CCA reunion (18-20 Oct). However, as the CCA moved forward with event reservations, signed contracts, and over $15k in sponsorships, we were informed the AFSOC events were the week after the CCA reunion.

Realizing the historical implications, pressures on our team and our Gold Star families to make both events coupled with the difficult decision to support both events or defray to one or the other, your Directors have determined we could not detract from this historical event to recognize Combat Control’s first MOH recipient and have determined to cancel the October CCA Reunion. We have refunded this year’s reunion sponsors, paid the hotel to release us of our obligation, and are ready to support every possible MOH function.

The CCA has agreed to support several events from the Friday night social mentioned above to a Gold Star family breakfast in October and several events in between. We have estimated the costs will be between $15-20K. If you would like to support, you can donate here: https://usafcca.org/mdb/donations/. This donation site is up and running, and there are limited costs. Finally, if you or your organization are only able to provide funds to a 501(c)3, let us know, and we will work that for you.
